Crystal Clear

<h1 align="center">Crystal Clear</h1>

Have you ever experienced an emotion so pure and clear that it needed no explanation?

Today, I want to explore a painting that deeply impressed me. I discovered it only recently, and I find it extraordinary.

We see a clear, cold winter night. A cemetery full of gravestones. An old woman sits on a bench, her crutch resting beside her.

If you look closer, there is a Christmas tree decorated with a star on top, a few ornaments, and a garland. The woman is holding a candle, while another one stands in the snow. On the gravestone, there is a photograph showing the silhouette of a woman.

I am not going to decipher this painting. I already know what it represents, as the artist openly explained its meaning. The real power of this painting lies in discovering for yourself the emotion the artist is trying to convey.

<div align="center"> <img src="https://kartinysistoriey.ru/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/0gqytvqp-uu-1.jpg" alt="New Year's Night — Sergey Andriyaka" width="700"> <p> Sergey Andriyaka — <i>New Year's Night</i> (1984) </p> </div>

The artist revealed the story behind it. His father had recently died, and during the holidays, he visited his grave. On the bus ride back from the cemetery, he met an elderly woman who told him that she was completely alone. She had no husband, no relatives, and her only child, a daughter, had died.

Every New Year's Eve, she would come to the cemetery and sit beside her daughter's grave.

On the same day, during a church service, the artist heard a priest deliver a sermon about how, while most people celebrate the holidays with joy and abundance, others suffer in loneliness, and we should be considerate of them.

The artist was so deeply moved by these experiences that he decided to capture the emotion in a painting.

Despite the cold winter night and the cemetery setting, this painting is full of warmth. The artist found a remarkable way to express a parent's love for a child and the overwhelming desire to feel the presence of someone who is no longer there.

And then there is the city of Moscow in the background, glowing with the lights of celebration, joy, and happiness.

Yet somehow, all those lights, all that happiness, seem unable to match the warmth of this lonely old woman's feelings.

And that is the paradox that makes this painting so extraordinary.
